Tiptop packaging
Description
This is a packaging design project I did to the Pro Carton Young Designers Award competition 2021. I mainly focused on the opening experience, cartonboard as a packaging material, and the graphic design. The method most used was the trial-and-error method, where I made many mock-ups and prototypes to see what worked and what didn’t.
Project by Elias Rølvåg Horsgård
The use of plastic in packaging design is in many cases both insane and unnecessary, which motivated me to really show what cool stuff one can do with cartonboard. By focusing on the opening experience, I wanted the user to feel a sense of sensation. Therefore, this packaging design would be a good fit for collectable diecast cars or other products. The physical modelmaking was really effective in this project. Towards the end I worked a lot with adjusting millimeters to make this rather complex box fit perfectly together.
TIP TOP delivers the ultimate unboxing experience where the product automatically pops up on display as you open the packaging. In this way, this one single piece of folded and glued cartonboard adds value to the product. The TIP TOP packaging displays collectable diecast cars and ensures their safe storage and transportation as the box is strong and secure. The user will continue to use the TIP TOP packaging long after purchase and will be giving the packaging a much longer and sustainable lifespan than conventional plastic options. The design can also easily be converted to fit other products.
Technical drawing does also exist ;)
